Rheumatology is the medical branch that deals with rheumatic diseases. While patients who suffer with any form of arthritis can seek help in this medical field, rheumatology specializes in rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease (pertaining to the immune response of an organism its own cells, cell components and even tissues) that can cause chronic inflammation in a patient''''s joints, in the tissue around the joints and in the organs. Osteoarthritis occurs when the cartilage of one or more joints begins to break down, ultimately being lost all together. Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis.
